前两天同学David给我发了个信息，他收到了澳大利亚维州政府给我的一封催款信，里面说，因为我没有参加2010年的维州选举，被罚款，因多次催款无效，定于2011年2月26日为最后的due day，要么缴纳罚款155澳币（约相当于￥1000元，包含多次催缴的overdue），要么收到传票上法庭。当时就晕了。

大家都知道澳洲有法律，所有公民必须要参加领导人选举的投票，不投票都会被轻则罚款重则法庭。像我这样逾期两年的情况，估计已经是十恶不赦了吧！

抱着试试看的心态给州政府选举办写了个email：

Dear Sir/Madam,

Attached is the overseas notification form of me, together with a "notice of intention to issue an infringement warrant" sheet. I left Australia in 2008 and since then I only came back twice in March 2009 and Nov 2009. It is not until today did I know that I had missed the enrollment of Victoria, only through a letter sent to my friends accommodation (xxx, xxx, xxx).

I did send a similar overseas notification form to AEC (http://www.aec.gov.au/enrol)  in 2009, however I was not aware that the two enrollment systems are not data-shared.

Hereby I am asking you, please remove the infringement for my absence and not receiving relative letters.

没想到今天就收到了回信，不仅注册了海外leave，还超出我预期的cancel了infringement。

Hello John, We have withdrawn the infringement (letter attached) and we will write to the court to have the enforcement order revoked. Your overseas elector form has been forwarded to the AEC. Regards Phil.

这就是我喜欢澳大利亚的原因，选举是自由的，但是是强制的，然而即使犯了错误，但只要是提出自己的合理论点和论据，书email一封一样会被信任并取消惩罚。

想象在中国吧。
